- Epidemic Interventions Demonstration Project Research Award
CHRP is pleased to announce a Call for Applications for Epidemic Interventions Demonstration Project Research Awards to support the testing and evaluation of innovative approaches toward the combined implementation of two interventions intended to improve health outcomes and curb the HIV epidemic in California. Multi-disciplinary teams of investigators will engage populations most adversely affected by HIV to provide testing and linkage to care plus antiretroviral treatment for those who are HIV positive (referred to as “TLC+”), while at-risk individuals who are HIV negative will be offered prophylactic antiretroviral medication in addition to prevention counseling and medical monitoring (referred to as “PrEP”). The impetus for these studies is based on recent evidence that medication has a striking effect on viral transmission, both for those who pose a risk of transmitting the virus, and those at risk of infection. This research is intended to provide actionable information for the improved and practical implementation of TLC+ and PrEP in key populations in California. Awards for the Epidemic Interventions Demonstration Projects are up to $1,200,000 per year in direct costs for up to four years.
- Collaborative HIV/AIDS Policy Research Center Award
CHRP is pleased to announce a Call for Applications for Collaborative HIV/AIDS Policy Research Center Awards to support multi-disciplinary teams of investigators working in partnership with consumers, advocates, and policymakers to conduct policy-relevant research. The awards are intended to encourage policy research that addresses important and timely research questions and strengthens local, state, and national capacity to enact HIV-relevant policy that is informed by objective and rigorously conducted research. This research is intended to produce new knowledge that can be applied to improve prevention and care services for affected persons and populations. Awards for CHRP Collaborative HIV/AIDS Policy Research Centers are up to $500,000 per year in direct costs for up to four years.
Basic Biomedical Sciences:
A Call for Applications in Basic Biomedical Sciences is scheduled to be released in June, 2012. The planned call will include IDEA (Innovative, Developmental, Exploratory Awards) and research Training Awards in the broad research area of basic biomedical sciences as covered under CHRP research field definitions.
Clinical Sciences and Social/Behavioral Sciences:
Under the new strategic plan (2011-2015), CHRP will not offer our traditional investigator-initiated award mechanisms-- IDEA, Research Training Awards, and Community Collaborative Research Awards (CCRA) in the Clinical, and Social and Behavioral Sciences research areas. It is possible that these mechanisms will be offered in the future, but given the new strategic direction for the Program and limited current resources, it is not possible to support these award types at the present time.
CHRP Strategic Plan: 2011-2015
During 2011, a process of statewide stakeholder input (“Thought Leaders”) identified priority areas to support CHRP’s mission and to address strategic HIV/AIDS research issues critical to California. Based on this input, the Program, and its Advisory Council articulated a set of strategic goals under a new strategic plan. As a result, CHRP is moving towards initiative-style grantmaking as the primary grantmaking strategy, which allows the program to impact the current HIV epidemic in California by primarily funding large-scale efforts across multiple sites and institutions.
